Welcome to 2020-2021

Hello!!

I’m Victoria, and I am very pleased to have taken on the role of FASS President for 2020-2021. I am a relatively new FASSie and my goals for this year are to continue to recruit and retain new people and keep them comfortable here!

There are going to be some interesting challenges this year, as of this writing pretty much the whole country is on lockdown and it seems quite difficult to put on a FASS with everyone in their own homes. We are hoping that the world heals in time for a show, and we are already dreaming up ideas of how to keep FASS alive if the situation arises that such a concession must be made as to put on a show from our bedrooms!

Joining me on the 2020-2021 board are Company Coordinator Tammy Markov, Treasurer Danny Eagle, Creative Liason Jen Farmer, and Representatives R. Brent Clements, Erik Arndt, Nathan Liu, and Allan Beldan, along with Presidential Advisor Diana (Dee) Skrzydlo.

I’d like to officially announce that applications for Creative Liaison will be accepted until Sunday April 26 at 11:59 PM. If you are interested in applying for the position, please email prez@fass.uwaterloo.ca with a brief outline of your qualifications. Descriptions of the position below.

Thanks everyone for putting your trust in me. I’m looking forward to working with the new Board and helping guide the FASS family in this coming year, and we hope that we can continue to keep everyone in good spirits and connected through these unusual times.

Victoria

Creative Liaison is responsible for:

  • Running the Show Councils – meetings, coordination, and responsibilities
  • Reporting back to the Board on the status of the shows [including debrief]
  • Selecting and supervising a Social Coordinator who runs activities during the show run

Winter 2020 Show Council and Writing

Hi everyone,

What a fabulous Fall FASS! We had more audience than we knew what to do with, the guest acts called us “so professional”, and Imprint loved us even though we made fun of them (seriously, check out their review!)

Now let’s look forward to the Winter show, which will take place in the Hagey Hall Theatre on Feb 6, 7, and 8, 2020. I’m pleased to open nominations for Director, Stage Manager, Tech Director, and Producer. If you’re interested in any of these positions, please email prez@fass.uwaterloo.ca to apply.

In addition, our valiant CSW Dan Viggiani has scheduled the first two writers’ meetings to decide the theme and structure of the show. They are:

  • Thursday October 17th in MC 2038 from 7 to 9 pm
  • Tuesday October 22nd in MC 2034 from 7 to 9 pm

Hope you can come out and join the writing team and/or the Show Council and make this another awesome FASS!

Dee

Fall Variety Show

Come out and see the FASS Fall Variety Show: Feridun-Dun-DUN!

October 4 and 5 at 8pm in AL 116.

When a rash of murders sweeps campus, everyone is a suspect – even the geese! Can our intrepid detectives figure out whodunit… before it’s too late?

We’ll also be joined on stage by many fabulous guest acts from other performance groups on campus, including the Warriors Band, UW Cheer Team, Chavembachata, UW Improv Club, AcaBellas, Unaccompanied Minors, and UW Juggling Club!

Hope to see you there! Admission is by donation and everyone is welcome!

Fall Variety Show Auditions

If you’d like to get involved with the FASS Fall Variety Show on Oct 4&5, come out to Auditions!

Come by for about an hour any time on Sept 3, 4, or 5 between 7 and 10 pm in HH 123&124. Everyone who comes out is guaranteed to be able to participate in the show. Tech, Stage Management, Band, etc welcome too. If you want to get involved behind the scenes, contact Jen at cc@fass.uwaterloo.ca

Also, if you are involved in a performance group of some kind and would like to be an external act for the show, contact our External Acts Recruiter at acts@fass.uwaterloo.ca

FASS Summer Announcements

Hot enough for ya?
Writing for the Fall Variety show is heating up as well, with a theme selected (Politics/Murder Mystery) and brainstorming well underway here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/163FW–Nd9rtpYFnQ6SWyL1AZjunn46bzrqrdwsPYeVA/edit. Please jump in with ideas! You can also contact our CSW Brent at csw-fall@fass.uwaterloo.ca or join the writers mailing list here if you want to receive emails about writing: https://lists.uwaterloo.ca/mailman/listinfo/fass-writers
Speaking of the Fall show, we have a great director, Brandon West, but we’re still in need of a Tech Director, Producer, and Stage Manager for the short 3-4-scene production. This is a great opportunity to try out these roles in a less intense production! In addition, we’re looking for someone to coordinate with external acts, since what is a variety show without some variety? See below for a rough description of the duties for these positions, and get your application in to prez@fass.uwaterloo.ca by July 15 at 11:59 pm.
We’re running some fun social events all summer long, so check out the Facebook group for details at https://www.facebook.com/groups/5141075654/
Hope to see your witty words for the script, awesome applications for positions, and terrific turnout at the events this summer!
