What happens at weekend rehearsals?
Weekend rehearsals are the main rehearsals for singing and dancing for the opening and closing numbers. If you want to be in the the opening or closing numbers you need to be available either both Saturdays or both Sundays. Exactly which number is rehearsed on which day varies from year to year.
The tech crew will be working during all the weekend rehearsals. This will be the time to create props and sets, sew costumes, paint backdrops, hang lights, and all the other technical tasks that need to be done. At some point during the two weekends, every cast member needs to visit the dressing room to discuss their costume(s).
The Producer will also be working on some days on videos and other ways to sell the show.
When and where are they?
Weekend rehearsals generally run on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm during the first and second weeks of rehearsals, but check the schedule to make sure. There will be an hour break for lunch from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
Weekend rehearsals are held in Hagey Hall. Singing and dancing practice will take place either in a classroom in Hagey Hall (usually HH 280, but check the calendar to be sure) or on the stage of the Humanities Theatre.
Do I have to participate in the opening and closing numbers?
We’d really like you to, because the numbers will look better the more people we have in them, and it’s a lot of fun. The rehearsals on the weekend are also the best time to get to know everyone in the cast. If you really are not free on both Saturdays or both Sundays, then you won’t be able to be in opening or closing but you can still take part in the rest of the show.
If you are unable or unwilling to be in the opening or closing numbers, you are still required to come one day each weekend. There are a variety of other tasks which need doing, especially build work in the tech shop. If you cannot make it to at least one day each weekend, contact the Stage Manager in advance.
What should I bring?
For singing and dancing rehearsals, you should bring water, comfortable clothing that will be flexible during dancing, and clean indoor shoes (not the ones you wore outside), or you will have to dance in your socks. Since you will be moving around a lot in an enclosed area, please take care of your hygiene (showering, deodorant) for the comfort of everyone in the company.
If you plan on helping with the tech build, your indoor shoes must additionally be close-toed for safety reasons.
What about a party?
There is often a party or other social event (like Talent Optional Night) on each Saturday night during rehearsals. Check the announcements for more time and location.
